Veronica has investigated myelin health for 20 years, completing her PhD at The Montreal Neurological Institute/ McGill University and her postdoctoral training at the Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine. Her research focus is on how microglia regulate myelin health across the lifespan, thereby identifying novel therapeutic strategies for neurological disorders (such as multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy) and dysfunction with ageing. She has a passion for equality and diversity in STEM, and building an inclusive and supportive research culture.

Senior Research Assistant/Lab Manager
Annette joined the Miron lab in January 2025, as the lab manager of the Toronto location. During her Masters degree Annette looked at the role of D1-class dopamine receptors in stroke recovery in mice. Following this she worked at the Latner Institute for Thoracic Surgery studying ex-vivo lung perfusion and lung transplant. In her most recent role, she looked at Multiple Sclerosis (MS) from an immunological angle. Her project examined the effect of cigarette smoke on experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (a mouse model of MS). In her spare time Annette enjoys reading, hand embroidery and trying to keep up with her daughter.

Unity Health Toronto Postdoctoral Scholar
Georgie investigates the role of microglia in cognition. She is particularly interested in how microglia-oligodendrocyte interactions may be altered with cognitive decline and ageing. Georgie completed her BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience at The University of Melbourne, and subsequently pursued a PhD investigating oligodendrocyte lineage expansion during development and ageing. In her spare time, Georgie loves reading, going hiking/cycling, and playing (very) amateur fiddle.

Postdoctoral Fellow
Lucy is investigating interactions between oligodendrocytes and microglia in Alzheimer’s disease and small vessel disease, two major causes of dementia, in order to uncover dysregulated pathways that may be targeted for prevention or treatment strategies. She completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and her MSc in Immunology at Trinity College Dublin, and her PhD in Veronica’s lab at The University of Edinburgh. Outside of the lab, she spends her time reading, baking and taking long walks in nature.

German Research Foundation Postdoctural Fellow
Alana graduated in Molecular Medicine at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany) and completed her PhD on the role of neuroinflammation in neurodegenerative diseases. Joining the Miron lab, Alana investigates how brain-resident macrophage subsets affect the development of oligodendrocyte lineage cells and myelin formation. Outside of the lab, Alana enjoys cycling, baking her own bread and exploring new places around the world.

PhD Student
Larry joined the lab in 2026 and is investigating neuroimmune interactions regulating oligodendrocyte pathology within circuits in disease. He obtained his BSc in Physiology and Immunology from the University of Toronto, and prior to joining the lab, carried out research projects in Toronto and Edmonton on microglial responses to different types of CNS injury. Outside the lab, Larry enjoys reading philosophy, reading poetry, and working out.

MS Canada PhD Student
Bianca obtained her Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in Immunology from Queen’s University, where she did her undergraduate thesis analyzing genetic-epigenetic relationships in thyroid cancer. In 2024, she joined the Miron lab for her PhD, investigating the role of monocytes in regulating the efficiency of central nervous system remyelination in neurodegenerative disease. In her spare time, you can find Bianca at the bookstore, in the gym, or rowing on any body of water she can find.

Astex Postdoctoral Fellow
Tina is investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning myelin pathology in Alzheimer’s disease. Her previous expertise was as a neuroanatomist and slice electrophysiologist, whilst completing her PhD and first postdoc at the University of Edinburgh. Outwith the lab, Christina enjoys long distance running, playing videogames and going to the pub with pals.

Vanier Scholar & MD/PhD Student
Jonathan is studying the role of peripheral immune cells in instigating myelin degeneration in the absence of microglial homeostasis. He recently graduated from McMaster University with a BSc in Biochemistry, where he did his undergraduate thesis investigating immunopathology during infectious disease. In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys reading, trying to create fusion food across different cultures, and swimming.

Senior Research Assistant/Lab Manager
After starting off as an animal technician and moving into pathology in the private sector, Jamie became a member of the Edinburgh MRC Brain Bank. Jamie then moved onto a senior technician position at the University of Edinburgh, looking at synapse changes in Alzheimer’s Disease. Jamie started his new role as Lab Manager of the Edinburgh Miron Lab in July 2023. An avid reader, gamer and amateur gardener, Jamie can be found online with his D&D group or bingeing the new ‘must see’ series.
